Historical Events

What, if any, historical events occurred during your elementary school days? Middle school? High school?
Here in US, In 1999, when I was still in my high school days, I have read about John F. Kennedy Jr., his wife Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, and sister-in-law Lauren Bessette are killed in a plane crash off the coast of Martha's Vineyard. The Piper Saratoga aircraft was piloted by Kennedy. Also, in the Philippines, it happened when I was in my elementary days, the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo, and an earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter Scale kills over 1600 people.
